About Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects different parts of the brain but severely effects the areas of the brain that control memory, language, and thinking skills. Most People assume that Alzheimer is a normal part of aging which is false. The progressive disease course is divided into four stages & worsens over time having no current cure for now , but treatments for symptoms are available temporarily treating those with early signs of detection thereby improving the quality of life for those affected with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
About The Purple Run
The purple run is an initiative to spread awareness by 2 mini marathons & a half marathon across 4 cities & 5 destinations at the same time for the cause of –alzheimer disease – prevention, signs, & treatments

Forum “The Purple Run” completes its first successful run with over 10,000 participants
India’s first ever run for Alzheimer’s awareness 5 MALLS, 4 CITIES, 1 RUN
Forum Malls in association with NIMHANS-Bengaluru proudly hosted the first edition of “The Purple Run” on 24th September 2017. India’s biggest run to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s across 5 Forum Malls in 4 cities; Mangalore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai at the same time for one single cause. Alzheimer’s is the 5th leading cause of death in people over 55 years old, and in India, more than 4 million people suffer from some form of dementia. Despite this, there’s a stigma attached to mental illness amongst us.
Forum “The Purple Run” mission is to focus first and foremost is to raise awareness about the Alzheimer’s, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s.
The Purple Run offered the running distances of 3 km (Family Run), 5 km, 10 km and the half marathon distance of 21km across 5 Forum Malls in 4 cities; Mangalore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, giving each participant an opportunity to contribute to a cause of their choice.
It was a day filled with the spirit of triumph, fantastic achievement and victories where many new running records were created. Over 10,000 runners across age groups and from different segments of the society participated enthusiastically in the 3 km, 5 km, 10 km & 21 km categories. The 21km run was flagged off at 5:00 AM, the run commenced being followed by 10km, 5km and 3km respectively at all 5 malls.
Adding pep to the run was the presence of around medical camps, DJ music, Zumba sessions and several entertainment programmes organised to boost the spirit of the participants. The event running in its first leg in saw eminent personalities present at the event to support the cause 5 Forum Malls.
Winners of the timed run in the 21km & 10km runs and 5km & 3km runs classified as a fun run were felicitated categories like Male and Female at the ceremony held post the run across 5 Forum Malls. Every participant got a medal for crossing the finish line.
Commenting on the success of Forum” The Purple Run” Ms. Ashwini Nithyanandam, AGM-Mall Promotions and Analytics, said “I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to each of the individuals who have contributed to a cause of their choice. It is heartening to see the enthusiasm and eagerness from all those participated in the race. Sports, Cinema and Music are the three powerful mediums that can trigger a movement. We thought of using Sports as a medium to create a movement for Alzheimer, the fifth leading cause of death among people above the age group of 55 Years she added”.
