The ‘Fun Run’ was a 5 km run held at Besant Nagar along with fun activities lined up for the participants. The Forum Purple Run, a run initiated solely for the purpose to create awareness on Alzheimer’s witnessed it’s 3rd edition in Chennai this year.

Forum Purple Run was held across 8 Forum malls in 6 cities:

The main aim of the run was to create awareness of Alzheimer’s, a disease that has immensely affected India but is not well known. About 4 million people in India are affected by Alzheimer’s but the majority of the country is not educated on the disease. The Forum Purple Run organized by the Prestige group aims at shedding light on this hidden problem prevailing in India. Proceeds of the run are to be donated in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.

But, what is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is a progressive disorder that causes brain cells to slowly degenerate and die. It is the most common cause of dementia among adults. It causes continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that disrupts a person’s ability to function independently. India has the third-largest caseload in the world after China and the US. Reports suggest that about 7.3 million citizens are to be affected by Alzheimer’s by the end of 2030.
